FAQ
California Inclusive Sailing (CIS) is a charity dedicated to promoting inclusive outdoor recreation. We provide adaptive sailboats to clubs to help them start or expand inclusive sailing programs, making sailing accessible to individuals of all abilities.
Our programs are open to anyone, including individuals with disabilities, veterans, and Special Olympic athletes. We strive to make sailing accessible to everyone who wants to experience the joy of being on the water.
We provide the RS Venture, a 16' sailboat with side-by-side adaptive seats and a capacity for four people. These boats are designed to accommodate individuals with varying mobility levels, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable sailing experienc.
Clubs interested in starting an inclusive sailing program can apply to receive an RS Venture sailboat. We look for clubs that have the three T's: a team, the tools, and the time to dedicate to running an inclusive program.
CIS is funded through donations and the generous support of volunteers, including partnerships with organizations like the PIMCO Foundation. Their contributions help us provide sailboats and promote inclusive outdoor recreation.
You can support CIS by volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about our mission. Follow our journey on our Facebook page, California Inclusive Sailing Newport Beach, to stay updated and learn more about how to get involved.
Since our founding in 2014, CIS has provided four RS Venture sailboats to clubs from San Diego to San Francisco. We have also facilitated the installation of a transfer lift at Marina Park Community Sailing Center, creating the first 100% ADA-compliant facility in California. Our programs have helped veterans, individuals with disabilities, and Special Olympic athletes enjoy the freedom and joy of sailing.
It's completely free to any participant thanks to the generous donations of our partners.
